The journey to finding our ideal client has been unexpectedly challenging. What could go wrong? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Everything! Well, a lot – if you are committed!

I had a client walk out of the clinic a couple weeks ago due to not wanting to be educated on a treatment plan by a veterinary nurse, he ‘just wanted the numbers!’

We have clients tell us:
➡️ We are forcing meds on pets
➡️ We spend too much time educating
➡️ Our appointment times are too long
➡️ We shouldn’t make people get a treatment plan when they just want to price shop
➡️ We have clients get calming meds prior to the visit but won’t give them, yet want care goals met.
➡️ Clients have gotten upset about having to discuss discharge instructions at length with the nurse prior to taking their pet home.

Do you know what these situations had in common? They were clients that ‘love’ the clinic and want to be here!

Then what’s the problem you ask? They don’t want to be here for the right reasons.

If you don’t want to be educated on your pet’s care or to know why we charge what we do, if you are against calming meds and don’t like our Fearless Standard then we aren’t going to be the right place for you.

Our ideal client doesn’t just come here because we are close to their house 🏠, they don’t come because we were the only ones that could get them in, and they don’t think they can pick and choose which part of the experience they want to participate in!

We want to serve the clients that want our experience. Personally, we sometimes wonder ‘where are clients that want to be educated and be part of their pets care, not to mention people who want low stress?’🤨 Often these clients drive 30+ minutes to be here because we are worth the drive.

Maybe clients don’t realize these things take time or how involved pet care can be? 🐶

Our journey has shown us that there are people that just don’t want to invest the time and energy into a partnership for their pet’s care. That’s ok, it just isn’t a good fit for us!

Yes, every clinic has clientele that is the same – but different! When we are looking for our ideal client, it hits different when you can’t get that specific client or realize the client in front of you isn’t that client.

It starts to get personal, you have more difficult conversations, and when clients are upset you have to stand up for who your ideal client is. It’s exhausting. And google reviews…we have many negative ones because our experience is so awesome but not the norm in this fast paced world we live in. 👎

Traditionally clinics let clients stay because they want the business and don’t want to lose a client as a revenue source or they are scared of the bad google review! This line of thinking is the easy way out, and also soul-sucking.

At Latah Creek we get to decide who our clients are. It has been a journey, but now after a several years we can attest to the fact that, although it is more work, it is so awesome to have relationships with our ideal clients and be able to provide an experience for them that they understand and want.

Are you an ideal client?
