At Latah Creek Animal Hospital we want to create a place where our team members can have a career. This doesn’t only include doctors and credentialed nurses/techs but vet assistants and CCRs as well.
Let’s talk about vet assistants for a minute…
Here is how they will be utilized in our clinic:
✔️ Cleaning, feeding, walking, caring for animals…this is the standards for the role
✔️ Setting up for surgery/dental/sedated procedures
✔️ Assist in prepping for surgery/dental/sedated procedures
✔️ Monitoring dentals/sedated procedures
✔️ Assisting in surgery when doctor needs
✔️ Post anesthesia patient checks, every 15 minutes for 1 hour
✔️ Hourly checks on all patients throughout the day
✔️ Setting up and taking radiographs
✔️ Taking patient history from owner
✔️ Rec wellness BW and BP on behalf of the doctor (senior and youth)
✔️ Taking BP readings
✔️ Drawing blood
✔️ Placing IV catheters (growth opportunity)
✔️ Running in house labs
✔️ Preparing cytology’s
✔️ Filling prescriptions
✔️ And probably some things I am forgetting!!
Plus, we encourage our vet assistants to have a special interest as well. We foster this and believe that special interests are an asset as they benefit the team member, clinic, client, and patient.
Currently, we have vet assistants with special interests in 🐈⬛ behavior, 🐕 behavior, and inventory. We facilitate specific CE for these individuals, then make plans for how it can be utilized in the clinic.
Growth isn’t always up; we do hit ceilings eventually. You just need to look in the next room! ♥️
