Pricing Transparency

We value transparency, which is why we want to provide you with a clearer breakdown of how we set our prices. This isn’t meant to be a tool for price shopping or comparison, but rather an opportunity to help you understand the factors that influence our pricing. Our aim is to build trust and ensure that you recognize the value and expertise behind the services we offer. When you’re ready, our veterinary nurses are here to discuss personalized treatment plans that are tailored to your pet’s unique needs.

How We Determine Our Veterinary Prices:

Let’s clarify some important terms:
  • Team Wages, Continuing Education/Training, Uniforms, Meals, and Benefits: These are the expenses related to compensating our team and supporting their professional development.
  • COGS (Cost of Goods Sold): This includes costs for medical supplies, lab services, and inventory.
  • Clinic Operating Expenses: Covers the building, administrative costs, marketing/advertising, and the maintenance of both the facility and medical equipment.
  • Profit: The amount the business earns after all expenses are paid.
Here’s a general breakdown of our clinic’s monthly finances based on our profit and loss statement:
  • Revenue: The total money paid by clients for our services.
    • About 48-54% of the revenue goes toward staff wages, benefits, and other related costs.
    • Around 21-23% covers COGS, which includes medical supplies, lab work, and inventory.
    • Approximately 24% is spent on clinic-related expenses, such as building upkeep, administrative costs, and medical equipment maintenance.

After all these expenses, we are left with an average profit ofless than 5%. Ideally, we’d strive for a15% profit margin to ensure business success and sustainability; however, reaching this goal would require cutting back on the quality of care we provide for patients, service for clients, and support for our team.

It’s completely normal for a business to aim for profitability—even one focused on animal care. We want to normalize the idea that veterinary clinics can and should be profitable while also being transparent about how we price our services. Many privately owned clinics struggle to stay profitable, as they work hard to deliver an exceptional experience for both clients and patients, while also investing in state-of-the-art equipment—often without charging enough to cover associated costs.

Pricing veterinary services is challenging, especially without the safety net of medical insurance. While certain services may generate more profit than others, at the end of the day, all the revenue is allocated across these key areas.

Porcupine Quill Removal 20min — Low $454 | Median $750 | High $1045

Porcupine quills need to be removed from your dog promptly to prevent serious injury and infection as they can become deeply embedded in the skin, causing pain, swelling, and potential damage to muscles and nerves. If left untreated, they can lead to infections or abscesses that may require more invasive treatment, and in a worse case, they can cause damage to the organs if they migrate. Sedation is necessary for safe removal, as it allows your dog to remain calm and still during the procedure, reducing pain and preventing further injury. Sedation ensures the quills can be removed thoroughly and comfortably, minimizing stress for your dog and lowering the risk of complications.

Dental Canine 40lbs — Low $627 | Median $895 | High $1163

We know how much you care about your dog’s health, and dental care is essential to their overall well-being. During a professional dental cleaning, we clean not just the visible surfaces of their teeth but also beneath the gumline, where plaque and tartar can build up and lead to gum disease and infections. This area is hard to reach with at-home brushing, but cleaning it thoroughly helps prevent serious dental and health issues. The cleaning is done under anesthesia to ensure your dog is comfortable and relaxed, allowing us to do a thorough job without causing stress. This helps keep your dog’s teeth and gums healthy, preventing pain and ensuring they stay happy and active for years to come.
